Miranda Makin is currently Associate Principal at Albany Senior High School (ASHS), a mother of two and a doctoral researcher at the University of Auckland. She has been privileged to be a co-founder of Albany Senior High School (ASHS), leading the establishment of the first state-funded ‘ILE’ senior high school in New Zealand. ASHS has pioneered human-centered design for learning including student-directed passion projects called Impact projects. Such innovations represent a huge shift from the familiar subject-based teaching and learning in secondary schools. As a research-practitioner Miranda is committed to working with leaders and teachers to grow effective teaching practices in both these nontraditional and traditional settings.
